Introduction

• This monomer is highly suitable for use in water-soluble, ultra-high molecular-weight polymers as an associating monomer.
• It exhibits higher activity compared to methacrylate and methacrylamide monomers.
• Offers superior acid and alkali resistance compared to vinyl ester monomers, allowing polymerization across a wide pH range.
• The polymer products made from this monomer can be used in a broad pH range, beneficial for alkaline polymer flooding in oilfields.
• Recommended usage: monomer × (2~4)%.

Safe Precautions

• Associative thickeners are hydrophobic-associative water-soluble polymers.
• Typically, they refer to water-soluble polymers with a small amount of hydrophobic groups on hydrophilic macromolecular chains.
• In aqueous solutions, hydrophobic groups aggregate due to hydrophobic interactions, leading to intra- and inter-molecular associations.
• This significantly affects the rheology of the solution.
• Above the critical association concentration, intermolecular associations form supramolecular structures, increasing the hydrodynamic volume and enhancing thickening properties.
• The hydrophobic groups in associative thickeners can adsorb emulsion or dye particles, reinforcing the structure.
• These structures may form physical networks (crosslinks) in the solution, which can be disrupted under shear, controlling the flow properties of the system.
• After the shear is removed, the viscosity recovers over time, allowing for improved leveling and gloss.
